A Talk on Dementia – Mental issues and Solutions

A talk on ‘Dementia – Mental issues and solutions’ by Dr.Ravish Thunga, Professor & HOD, Dept.of Psychiatry, A J Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangaluru was held on 30.09.2023 at Chetana school premises for the benefit of general public and for senior citizens in particular. The talk was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Dr. Ravish Thunga, in the presence of Shri H Nagarja Bhat, Hon. Secretary and Shri Vinod Shenoy, Treasurer, Dr. K R Kamath, Trustee of Seva Bharathi ® Mangalore with Shri Umesh Shenoy, the convener of Anantha Soukhya unit. Dr.Thunga, in his talk explained the various causes of ‘Dementia’ in aging process, emphasized to lead a tension free life style by following up six nature friendly “doctors” i.e. Sunshine, Exercise(Yoga), Diet, Friends, Self-confidence and Smile. He elaborated the difference between normal forgetfulness and dementia with live examples. To remember, the brain should register, retain and reproduce whatever seen, heard or felt. If one of them fails we forget things. The talk enjoyed by 94 participants, got clarifications for the doubts during ‘Question & Answer’ hour. In the beginning Sri H Nagaraj Bhat welcomed & introduced the guest and concluded by vote of thanks by Sri Umesh Shenoy.

Opportunity to view the circus show by the children of Chetana School

The children of Chetana Child Development Centre and Roman & Catherine Lobo Residential School for Visually Impaired with staff got a surprise gift from Shri Vedavyas Kamath, the sitting MLA of Mangalore South to view the ‘Circus’ show on 23.9.2023 at Dr.TMA Pai Convention Hall Mangaluru. The children enjoyed the show to the fullest extent, arranged at a spacious Hall. One and a half an hour show covering a variety of entertainment with adventurous events by different performers and disciplines, such as acrobats, aerialists, jugglers & sword balancers, old fashioned comedy and jokers’ short skits etc. The show concluded with patriotic and a unifying moment with National flag, designed to create a sense of unity of Bharath which made the whole audience to stand up and congratulate of team of Circus. Thanks to the MLA to provide a rare opportunity to the special children of Seva Bharathi units.

Various cultural programs were staged by the children of Chetana Child Development Centre Mangaluru and Roman and Catherine Lobo Residential School for Visually Impaired Mangaluru on 20.09.2023 at Sarvajanika Shri Ganeshotsava, Pratapanagara, Mangaluru. The children of Chetana presented Bhajan in group, a skit on birth of Shri Ganesha and a narrative on coastal districts “Tulunada Vaibhava”, Solo singing and a skit on the ‘Helen Keller’ who led the life for visually impaired. Well-known builder of the city Shri Shrinath Hebbar, the chief guest of occasion appreciated the talent exhibited by the children, handed over presented mementoes to the head of the schools. The school management conveyed thanks to the organisers for giving an opportunity to present the talents of divyang on the reputed Ganeshotsava forum.

The Chetana child development Centre(CCDC), Mangaluru being the convener of the Local Level Committee (LLC) of National Trust arranged a function on 12.9.2023 at Auditorium of the school for handing over the certificates to Legal Guardians of divyang. Smt. Renu Nair, Field General Manager, Union Bank of India, Zonal Office, Mangaluru was the as Chief Guest on the occasion and and Shri M Gopalakrishna, District Disabled Welfare Officer for Dakshina Kannada, Dept. for the Empowerment of differently abled and Sr. Citizens, Zilla Panchayat Building, Mangaluru was the Guest of honor. Shri H Nagraj Bhat, Secretary and Shri P Vinod Shenoy, Treasurer of Seva Bharathi, members of Local Level Committee, Smt. Suprita, Head mistress and staff with children of CCDC, beneficiary Legal Guardians were present in the function.

Chetana Child Development Centre, Mangaluru celebrated ‘Shri Krishna Janmashtami’ on 6.9.2023 in full devotion and enthusiasm. In the beginning, teachers chanted Shri Krishna Ashtothara. Bhajnans were also sung collectively, followed by Mangalarathi. Tottilu (cradle) Pooja and ‘Mosaru Kudike’ (breaking the pot) was performed. The trustees of Seva Bharathi, the HM of Chetana school with children & teachers, parents were present.

‘Rakshabandan’ celebrated at Chetana School

Unique and traditional festival ‘Raksha Bandhan’ was celebrated at Chetana Child Development Centre, V T Road Mangaluru on 30.8.2023 in a simple but meaningful function. The teachers applied ‘Bindi’ on the forehead, shown ‘Arati’, tied ‘Rakhi’ at wrists and gave sweets to all the school children. The children joyfully enjoyed the occasion. Seva Bharathi Trustees, the HM with teachers, school children, parents & well wishers present during the occasion.
